One hundred percenters, the Leeds Rhinos had a trip to a windswept capital to take on a London Broncos side looking to bolster their Super a league 2017 by shocking their visitors.

Last week the Broncos defeated the Batley Bulldogs by a massive 76-16 to show their clear intentions for the Qualifiers. The Rhinos would have been looking forward to the artificial 4G pitch at the Trailfinders, exactly the same as the one that they practice on all week.

The Rhinos were clear favourites but wouldn't underestimate the Broncos.

The Broncos got their dream start when the Rhinos spilled the ball while attacking in the Broncos half. It was picked up by Nick Slyney who broke the Leeds line before passing under the tackle to Rhys Williams who went sixty metres to score. Jamie Soward added the extras for 6-0 after six minutes.

The Rhinos got their account up and running on eleven when Tom Briscoe was at the end of a cross-field passing move to take a Kallum Watkins pass to score in the corner. Liam Sutcliffe failed to get the ball to the uprights against the strong wind.

Two minutes later and Jimmy Keinhorst broke the Broncos line with ease, drew the full-back, and found Liam Sutcliffe in support to canter under the sticks. This time he kicked the extra two and Leeds were 10-6 ahead.

On twenty James Cunningham put the Broncos back into the lead when the hooker went from dummy half, carving through the Leeds defence to go thirty metres under the sticks. Soward again added the extras for 12-10.

On twenty-five Briscoe grabbed his second for the Rhinos, almost a carbon copy of his first, as he again took a Watkins pass to score in the corner. Sutcliffe was again wide with the boot as he battled the wind.

Three minutes from the interval and a great inter-passing move through five pairs of hands saw Adam Cuthbertson break the line before finding James Segeyaro in support to score by the uprights. Sutcliffe was accurate with the boot and the Rhinos took a 20-12 lead into the interval.

The second half was just two minutes old when Kallum Watkins weaved his way through the Broncos defence to walk under the sticks but as he went to ground the ball was dislodged by Alex Walker.

Jordan Lilley made no mistake with his grounding four minutes later when he picked up a Brett Ferres kick over the top to go twenty to score. Sutcliffe again failed to add the extra two and the Rhinos were twelve ahead.

On forty-nine the Rhinos stepped on the gas when Mitch Achurch took a Segeyaro pass to spin out of two tackles to dive over. Liam Sutcliffe added the conversion for 30-12 and the Rhinos were edging out of sight.

Kallum Watkins added simple Leeds seventh on fifty-three when he powered onto a short ball after London had put the kick-off out on the full. With Sutcliffe converting, and the precious two points were the Rhinos.

On the hour mark Nick Slyney took advantage of two quick penalties to exploit a poor tackle and big gap in the Leeds defence to go over by the posts. Soward added the extras for 18-36.

But it was brief respite for the Broncos.

On sixty-three minutes Briscoe took a short pass from Watkins to go ten metres to complete his hat-trick. Sutcliffe kicked the extras from wide for 42-18.

Five minutes from time and Iliess Macani went down the right wing, outpacing the Leeds defence to go fifty metres to score. Soward was unable to add the extras 22-42. Three minutes later and Elliot Kear danced through the Leeds defence to go over under the sticks. Soward goaled for 28-42 to give the home side some respectability in defeat.

The Rhinos did enough to take the two points but at times it was far from comfortable against a determined London Broncos side who barring a few mistakes would have been even closer on the scoreboard. The Rhinos are now three from three, and one win away from securing Super League for themselves in 2017.
