| oOOOH...an attendance thread! I wonder how this one will end up
51,000 down from 2011 and the lowest opening round attendance since 2004. Regardless of the weather, which was crap, a couple of the attendances at the weekend were terrible.
27,803 for roosters v Souths in 2011....18,278 12 months later? Penrith and Canberra both shameful (regardless of the weather).......

I'm sure RL fans all over Australia are necking themselves Gutters...

Quote The week's ratings results were another reminder of the compelling nature of our competition,THE Australian Rugby League Commission's bargaining position with pay-television has been strengthened after [ua record-breaking opening weekend[/u reinforced the game's value to Foxtel.
With the code in the throes of nutting out a new deal with incumbent broadcasters Foxtel and Network Nine, The Australian obtained figures showing audiences are on the rise.
Foxtel's rugby league flagship, Super Saturday, had an average audience of 303,000 viewers, the [uhighest ratings for an opening round in history[/u.
Furthermore, the Monday night game between Sydney Roosters and South Sydney was the highest-rating show on pay-TV that day, with an average audience of 322,000.
[uOverall audience was up 9 per cent on the opening round last season[/u. The most dramatic increase came in the 5.30pm slot, with 337,000 viewers tuning into the Canberra-Melbourne game. That represented an increase of 29 per cent on the corresponding game last year.
The rating figures shape as a significant fillip for the ARLC as it attempts to break the $1 billion mark with its broadcasting deal. They come only a matter of days after Friday night football helped Nine topple ratings giant My Kitchen Rules in Sydney.
"The week's ratings results were another reminder of the compelling nature of our competition," ARLC chief executive David Gallop said.
"Close games mean all fans know their team is a realistic hope of winning. The standard of play was a credit to our players and coaches - it's shaping as a great season and our value to the television industry was rammed home again this week."
Formal talks have commenced with both Nine and Foxtel, with the parties involved in the three-month exclusive period of negotiations that began on February 1.
While Nine and Foxtel are expected to come back with solid offers, the ARLC has foreshadowed taking the rights to the marketplace. Network Ten has an interest in obtaining rights to NRL games, while Network Seven has targeted State of Origin.'"

| So 51,000 less people than Rd 1 last season went to a game.
Overall 9% more people watched it on telly than Rd 1 last season.
TBF Lockyer, this is a thread about attendances, not viewing figures.
