The BBC sports personality of the year has always neglected RL, even when the sport enjoyed reasonable exposure on Grandstand.

In Olympic year, marginal sports (and we have to accept that in terms of media profile that is what we are at the moment, sadly) were always going to get a token mention at best so I wasn't in the slightest suprised.

I would hope that in RL World Cup year we might enjoy greater exposure across the media as a whole next year, perhaps even get a nomination (Tomkins being the obvious potential media darling) but I wouldn't bank on it.

Phil Clarke should present it next year not Clare Balding.

The other problem is that is has changed from being the Sports Review of the Year incorporating the SPOTY to just the SPOTY. It used to be a run through of the sporting year but as the BBC has less and less rights to show it made it difficult so now they just run through the finalists and cram other bits in.

I recorded it to watch over Christmas. Was there much coverage of the F1?

Didn't the Saints team win it one year ? I know it was Olympic year but the programme is supposed to be about all British sport.

Clare Balding wont be presenting anything at BBC next year she is going to work on channel 4 racing.

Who knows, maybe if England put up a good showing and crowds of 40000 to 50000 turn up for every game the media might take notice.

But if the World Cup has a few thousand per game and predictable results including England getting a flogging in the semi final/final what are the media supposed to get excited about? The empty seats?

I was amazed Mo Farah didn't feature in the top 3. Winning the 10 and 5K events was a fantastic achievement. I think I would have gone for; Ennis, Wiggins, Farah (although I will admit to a little bias).

Brilliant three hours telly last night, but I [iknew[/i some bore would be on here whinging about the lack of RL coverage.

All three finals (two of which involved our club) got a mention, so in a year when the country hosted the biggest sporting event ever held here (I know two previous Olympics have been in London before anyone mentions them, but it is bigger now than before and a bigger event than the World Cup in 1966 or Euro '96), what more did you expect?

I'm quite pleased that Wiggins won, apart from his sporting achievements he seems to have a personality.

I would have also liked David Weir to have 'placed' phenominal athlete, in fact the paralympics were a sporting triumph full stop, real competition not tokenism at all.
