Even if he wanted to go to the NRL, he would be able to join a club in far better shape than Cronulla.

One of the upsides of his monster contract is that if a club did want him, then surely we would be able to demand a large transfer fee, which in Aus is pretty rare, and like AJ said, at the minute Cronulla are in dire straits

Why? He's consistent not afraid of the bigger players and has a good rugby brain. Every time he has stepped up a level throughout his career he has taken to it like a duck to water. The difference in class between U20's and Super League level is vast yet even when he played in the 4 nations he was directing play, dragging far more experienced players into position and didn't look fazed at all, particularly against New Zealand. I think Piggy summed up the differences between Super League and the NRL pretty well on the other forum saying that its not as much harder for players to play in than people tend to think just that because standards are good across the board rather than just a few teams so players know they need to turn up or they'll be exposed. Sam's consistency has never been an issue as far as I'm concerned and with top quality players around him he probably wouldn't stand out anywhere near as much as he does here but he's a class player and would do well in Oz.

I hope he goes to the NRL at some stage as otherwise in a few years everyone will be talking about him in the same terms as Danny McGuire.

I dont think anyone will ever call Sam vastly overrated

I would be surprised and disappointed if Sam was not getting admiring glances for his performances from the NRL. With a 5 year deal in his back pocket they can look on in envy all they want.
