27 year old Superleague prop, Luke Menzies has joined the Halifax Squad, on a one month’s initial loan period from Salford Red Devils, beginning today.
Head Coach, Richard Marshall said, “I know about Luke, and the amount of physical presence he can bring to the team. With Jacob Fairbank back at Huddersfield, we had a spot open, which worked out well, both for us and Luke. We’ve got a good relationship with Salford, who originally approached us. With Menzies in need of a bit of game time and already keen to spend time in the Halifax squad.
“I’m looking forward to watching him as a player, and seeing the dynamics of what he adds to our already very good pack!”
Menzies has had a great deal of experience since he began at Birkenshaw aRLFC; through from amateur level to Superleague. After years of development at Batley Boys, he moved to Drighlington aRLFC and was scouted to join Bradford Academy.
Having played as part of Dewsbury Rams, Batley Bulldogs and Hunslet Hawks, his experience in the past few years has given him a good wealth of recent experience in Championship.
“He’s experienced in Championship and that’s certainly a good sign. He knows how the Clubs work, the intensity level and what to expect with the type of opponents he’ll face with us.”
Luke might be a familiar name to most ‘Fax fans from his season last year with Swinton Lions. Assistant Coach, Marlon Billy worked with him throughout 2014 and knows the Prop well. He added, “Luke’s a really good guy. I coached him last year at Swinton Lions and know first hand, he’s a strong Prop and a top man.
“As a Superleague player he’s got the benefit of playing full time this year. He’ll be bringing with him a great level of strength, size and a bit of pace too. He’ll do well, he’s a really hard working individual.”
