Interesting that Lomax is playing fullback
So we could see in a few years in the first team
Lomax full back
Wheeler stand off
Eastmond scrum half
That is quite frankly a mouth watering prospect if all three players reach their potential.

| It'll be four from four on Saturday.
Leeds reserves have lost all three of their games to date and are second from bottom of the table.
Wigan beat them 66 - 10 on Friday.
The competition is a joke.

Its better to be the best of a bad bunch than the worst of a bad bunch.
And i agree the comp isnt up to much when teams with supposedly good development structures like Leeds are getting beaten 66-10.
It appears to me that the competition is a dead man walking. Some teams see the purpose of a reserve league, but most have just written it off and are playing lip service to development.
Ultimately it will mean that the standard of junior RL will decline. Also promising young coaches wont be able to cut their teath in the reserve Leagues as well. Which will mean we will become even more dependent on aussie coaches.

| Considering saints tend to send genuine reserves(not academy) players out on loan like moore, matty smith etc. , our success in this competition is very pleasing. Very dissapointed about leeds though, i thought they were better

I know it is the reserves and as such you play your reserves. But when you have the likes of Mathers and Smith etc. normal 1st teamers in the reserves team it can be sometimes misleading as to why the scorelines are like they are. Don't get me wrong I am not calling Wigan for playing them as there is no where else to play them.

That was why they made it 8 (or 9) players over 21 years of age allowed to play in the reserves, to allow those player who were not in the first team to get match practice and fitness.
It also allowed coaches to drop players (like Mathers and Smith) but keep their match fitness up.
In our case it has weakened the reserve team.

| Realistically the whole reserve grade system needs an overhaul. A Toyota U20 style competition with games played prior to the Super League fixture is the way to go. More experienced players coming back from injury or out of form would have to drop down a level on loan.

Last year they made a big stink before the reserve team final about Saints possibly playing a few first team squad players in champ final.
As it happened Saints didnt play any first team players, but Wigan went ahead and played a number of first team regulars.
