This story has been doing the rounds in Australia for a while now and the people organising it say this new 'hybrid game' is not intended to replace either code but to offer a third alternative in the face of the growing threat posed by AFL expansion particularly in Sydney where NRL crowds are falling and on average are down on last years totals.
The new rules have been thought up by ex Union player Mark Ella, former Wallabies coach Bob Dwyer and Manly rugby league great Bobby Fulton.

Launched properly I don't see why it wouldn't be a success.
Or maybe you would just like to see some of these new rules brought into RL to try and freshen the game up a bit? |

|  'shot clock'...it takes seven minutes to set and reset and reset and reset the union version of a scrum....and anyway an unemployed union coach has decreed that RL will be gone by the yr 2025...

You would have to ask one of the 3 gentlemen who thought up the rules that one
I like the fact they want contested scrums though.
That is definitely one part of our game I would like to see brought back in.
The current RL scrums are laughable the way they are. |

I voted no. Stick to what we have. RL is on the up in europe so why add another sport to compete with.

How do players no how long they have on the 'shot clock'? I wouldnt watch a sport that has different rules for different halves of the pitch anyway. Too confusing. There wont be a merger, people are just looking for escape routes because NRL crowds slumped a little.

Sorry maybe Generalised NRL based on Sydney, I dont watch NRL so wouldnt know to much about there crowds. But still, my point is, as soon as someone senses panic, people start to come up with alternatives. I just dont like this one. |
