| I think certain people on here should think a little deeper than just coming on here and hammering the players. As in any organisation there as to be figurehead who lays out the plan, Just imagine in your own situation if you went to work tomorrow and your manager left the company and someone else was put in charge, that person then tried to implement his way of doing things, he then lasted two weeks, then he left the company! someone else took over then due to some personal problems away from work he then left the organisation! then the job was passed to someone else probably because that person was last man standing! That business would be in chaos.
The players we have at the club are proven players at this level, just because they are now not wearing a Warrington, Huddersfield or a Canterbury jersey doesnt make them bad players.
We all know the chairman and vice chairman are currently in Australia doing interviews for the position of head coach and for me when the appointment is made hopefully in the next week or so things should start to turn around.
The new boss will put defensive and attacking structures in place that the players will have to play to, at the moment they seem to be making it up as they go along, that is why the they need a figurehead on a permanent basis that they know will be in charge for the long term.
Keep the faith, this is the best squad of players i can remember in my 25years watching them we just need a leader.

| What planet are you on? If i went to work and did my job as badly as some of our players i would be looking for a new job.The mistakes cannot be blamed on coaching as most of our players are not youngsters learning the game. The tackling from some of our players is laughable ive seen more snap in touch rugby and basic catching the ball our fullback looks like the balls on fire everytime the ball goes in the air.Season after season the coach gets it in the neck for our poor performances but im affraid the buck has to stop with the players for once.

I disagree.
Anyone with any idea of the finer points of any team sport would realise that there are many dynamics that interact to produce good results and indeed bad results. The skill is having someone at the helm who can read and work with all these dynamics, be it players skill levels, fitness, personalities, back-room involvement, not to mention coaching drills, skill sets, and motivation. Our team lacks that 'Director'. Someone to push the right buttons at the right time. When we appoint our new Coach hopefully this will be sorted.
On the contrary to what you are saying, I think our players have performed admirably on a rudderless ship. You can't expect players to do the job of a set of coaches. Equally, you can't expect one assistant coach to provide all the needs that a dedicated team of coaches should be doing. Personally, I think it must be hard for the players at the moment, and considering all these antics they don't lack the motivation and tenacity to have a go.
Making scapegoats of the players, in my opinion, shows a weak grasp of how team sport works and on a moral level, shows narrow-mindedness which points to plenty of emotion, and not enough thought.

| I agree.
The players read the Turkey and some of the stupid criticism is bound to affect their morale.
They are good players, fit, put in maximum effort and need something more.
That something is probably a skilled and motivational coach.
Vievers is doing OK in difficult circumstances but a change is needed and the Board know that.

| Gazcabs and wardley you obviously dont undertand team sport, of course mistakes can be blamed on the coaching, the poor tackling as you say is down to having no defensive structure therefore we are under pressure all the time, are you trying to say Luke Patten is a crap player? you would be in a very small minority if you are not just among salford supporters but all rugby league pundits all over the world!! Have a think about clubs whos fortunes have changed by a change of management heres just a few... Owen coyle bolton, kenny dalgliesh liverpool, nathon brown huddersfield, tony smith warrington, micheal maguire wigan. Pretty sure theres more and by the way there was massive improvement in these examples with the same players so the coach as a massive part to play.

| I hope the above two comments are right but we have seen little change or improvement under how many coaches now ?
In fact if all goes to previous regime changes it will happen before the season ends in time for the new Messiah to make little to no difference with the prospect of him working with his own team over the next few seasons.
The players are seasoned pro's and we should be at least able to compete with the likes of HKR and not be getting beat 60-0 at home to others. Maybe there is some truth in the "Suicide Salford Theory".

| Will you borrow me your rose tinted specs for the next game then cause your watching a different game to me.Yes i think Patten is shocking at fullback i see lads in the academy catching the ball on the full yet our superstar fullback wont go near it until its bounced a couple of times.Blaming the coaching for bad tackling is a cop out as well as soon as they cross the white wash its down to the players. Also the players reading this my heart bleeds for them get them to pay year in year out to watch heartless lazy performances.

| You have to think to yourself that the players don't know if they're coming or going from a coaching point of view.
Can anyone in thier right mind imagine what someone like Patten must be thinking to arrive in a forgein country to start afresh and be made to suffer the shambles that is Salford at first hand.
As has been stated elsewhere in this thread think the players have done pretty well when you consider that they have'nt had a head coach for most of the seaqson and from what I can see a stand in who has all the charisma of a lettuce.
Think we all know that we this season have lacked motivation and for me there has to be something in the coaching to leave the most talented squad for a long while playing like they have no faith left in thier ability.
A new coach for me must be as much a phycologist as a tactition to give the players the belief to play to the best of thier abilities.

Ive worked in an office where the manager was useless and therefore the office was a shambles. In comes a manager who was very good at what he does and a couple of years later our performance has improved immensely.
Strong organisations start with talented and effective managers. We have not had that and I cannot expect our performances to be of a high standard until we have a coach of a high standard. I do not question the players committment, there is more to it than that.

| seems your in the minority! by the way if Luke patten is such a poor player can you explain how he managed 10 years in the NRL? You just have to look a bit deeper than current performances that i accept are not what we expect from these players and yes i include Patten in that, but the coach is the most important person at the club and we havent got one. If we go of what you say why does anyone employ a coach surely the players can do it without a head coach? Would man utd have won all those titles without Sir Alex i doubt it do you?
