For my money, now would be the time to appoint Keiron Purtill as head coach. In his short, caretaker spell, he has sorted out the team spirit, and defence, and has made the attack far more potent. It's a refreshing change to have a former half back, (and Leyther) in charge.

Here's hoping the owner abandons his search for a head coach and gives the job to Keiron - bringing someone new in now, could undo all the good of the last four matches!

Does he want it though? He’s spent his whole coaching career as an assistant, and a good one at that. He’s done a good job of setting up the infrastructure of the youth and reserve teams. Sometimes it is better to be in the background than in the firing line 24/7. I’d be happy if he was given the job but sometimes Coaches enjoy just being coaches. Norman Turley is the prime example.

He's working well with whats in place. I dont think DB would back what he wanted to do. We are in a transitional period at present and need to continue with what we have. If he hits top 4,then give the lad the job.

We never used to get it delivered, but when the Leigh Reporter 'packed in'...suddenly we did !

Hes a proven number two. Its up to him to prove different. The goal would be set at top 4.

Which is when the other coaches, who haven't shown interest, would suddenly be interested in the job!



Keiron seems to have worked wonders in improving areas where we have been seriously lacking. We can now seem good structures in defence and attack. A new coach would almost certainly start imposing his own ideas - and I wonder how that would affect things, certainly in the short term? We have no wiggle room for experimenting.
